Below is a collection of poems written by me, and one by the famed and absolutely heady Mary Oliver.
Enjoy x
I can see now how poetry comes to visit me—she sits down, crosses her legs, and tells me we need to talk, soul to soul.
I can hear the kettle boiling
and the smell of roses is on the air.
I want to make poems
that look into the earth and the heavens
and see the unseeable. I want them to honour
both the heart of faith, and the light of the world;
the gladness that says, without any words,
everything.
Mary Oliver, Everything
I want to dance and weep
simultaneously,
a dedication to life and to
grief.
True beauty—
a blooming blush bouquet blossoming
through the sinew of a rib cage.
REDEMPTION
RESTLESS
There are days when my steps become rote,
and I start to become ‘just like everyone else’
when Restlessness comes.
She awakens from deep within
and decides (for me)
that my feet need to dance to a disco beat
like Saturday Night Fever.
That I must (right this minute)
find every poetry book I own and decorate
my nightstand with their words,
the perfect blend of inspiration and romance.
That wearing black no longer works
and that I must wear different patterns,
to let the colours sing like Stevie Nicks
in rock ‘n roll technicolor.
I will crave sweet noir and wear all my gold jewelry.
I will call my friends and say,
"Let's get dressed up, go out and dance!"
when it happens to be a Tuesday.
I will drive along the coast with all the windows down
and sing along with Floyd
at the top of my lungs-
"Shine! Shine on, you crazy diamond."
with love from my corporate keyboard,
